Psychological Wellbeing within Compassion
My name is Dt Sue Barker and I achieved a PhD in 2010 through my research related to emotional care and became a Chartered Psychologist in 2012 gaining Associate Fellowship with the British Psychological Society a couple of years later. I have extensive experience (over 40 years) in supporting people with their mental wellbeing through psychological therapies and mentorship as well as clinical and academic supervision. I have been privileged to walk with people as they reach their personal goals in achievement of their unique potential.
Therapeutic Approaches
Biopsychosocial
Everyone is embodied and as such everything they think, experience and do has an impact on their physical body. Likewise bodily experiences such as a person's genetic make-up, infections and diseases all impact on the person's sense of wellbeing.
Humanistic and Attachment
The humanistic therapeutic approach identifies that each person is an individual with unique potential and life experiences. This leads to a person centred approach. Psychological Wellbeing within Compassion also incorporates attachment theory which identifies that everyone needs to experience a nurturing, safe and secure environment for personal growth.
Cognitive Behavioural
Cognitive behavioural therapy is accepted as the mos effective way to address anxiety. It highlights the interplay between thought, behaviour and emotions. Through this therapeutic approach people are supported to restructure their thinking and find new ways of behaving to facilitate wellbeing.
